History of Chunati

Chunati Union is situated on the border of Lohagara Upazilla. It lies about 3 Kilometer south west of Upazilla Headquarter and is connected by a metalled road. It is one of the nine unions of the upazilla and village chunati is situated on the western side of the union. The village consists of two rivers. On the eastern side Dolu Canal, on the southern side Moskania Canal pass through the village.

Chunati is blessed with a prestigious Aliah Madrasha. Apart from the Hakimia Aliah Madrasah it embodies a Women College, a High school, one Mahila Madarasha ,one Primary school and multitude of N.G.O. schools, Maktabs and Furqanias along with religious shrine,clubs and public forums of all sorts and above all a grand Jame Mosque and Sirat Maydan of huge dimension unprecedented at an out-lying villages like this.  
 
Chunati is credited with the highest literacy rate of 80%. It can be bifurcated and portion can be attributed to graduate in terms of Madrasha and College University education with more then 8 PhDs in the same village. Female education in Madrasha is noted for silent distinguished features.  

Agriculture plays an important role in the economy of the village. A great number of dwellers maintain there livelihood on service, public or private, at house and abroad,while some business enterprises too,made their head-way,over and above, the agriculture adds a new dimension to the total economy and make it remarkably well, though not well off.  
                                                                          
Total area of chunati is about 2 square kilometer. Other than hilly portion the land is considerably fertile. There is a forest encircling about ½ square kilometer. There are a lot of fish projects in the village. Apart from cultivating fish in the tanks, people also produce fishes in the low land encircling it with drum sheet or embankment.

Culture is a co-ordinated phenomenon of knowledge, belief, art, morals, law, custom and any other capabilities bestowed on human beings. the culture of chunati is multi-dimensional. this sort of cultural aspect is palpable in the folklore or folksong, sung in a body or connectively in the nuptial occasions. the urdu-persian songs in the wedding ceremony are distinctive and unprecedented in nature. it upholds the underlying spirit of the cultural minded people of chunati.

Chunati is an enlightened village of exquisite antiquity. Its tradition and culture is the resultant of the diversified attitude of various people migrated from outside. In this prospective, Chunati can be termed as an exquisite rendezvous of multi-dimensional human attributes.

 

The setting of chunati is a harmonious blend of conservativeness and spirituality. Its underlying significance is that the people settled here from outside were tinged with religious fervor. It will not be championed by the yardstick of logic that the muslims of late Eighteenth and early Nineteenth century were very much endowed with progressive outlook.Moreover we can not lay emphasis on the point that a remote village chunati can be a befitting adobe for highly educated people tinged with modernism.  

The very name Chunati signifies the selected one with strict reference to nomenclature. Some also opine that it is made of chunu and Tia purports tiny farm.

According to reliable sources the first man set his foot in this soil is Moulana Amjad Hossain khandaker. His original abode was Gour. From Gour, he was shifted to Fateabad. He migrated to Chunati from Fateabad. The name of his descedents are put forward in the chronological manner.

Moulana Ibrahim Khandaker catagorizes himself one of the fore fathers of Chunati. His only son Abdur Rashid Sikder was awarded a vast acres of land as Zamindari by the Moghuls. Abdur Rashid Sikdar was blessed with four sons, named (1) Abdul Gani Sikder (2) Abdus Samad Sikder (3) Ahmed Kabir Sikdar (4) Mohammed Taki Sikder.These four sons of Abdur Rashid Khandaker virtually laid the foundation of enlightened and prosperous Chunati and their posterity play significant role in every walks of Chunati.

Moulana Shah Sharif(Boro Mianjee),Moulana Abu Sharif(Chutu Mianjee) and Sufi Nusratullah Mianjee,Maolana Ataullah Husaini(Bhura Moulana) are the noted spiritual personalities of earlier stages. Shaikh Abdullah while setting out on pilgrimage kept his son Quari Abdur Rahim to his friend Moulana Shah Sharif (Boro Miajee). The boy was brought up and received education by Boro Mianjee owing to his fathers demise in course of pilgrimage.In due course of time he became Imam of Adul Gani Sikder Mosque and obtained vast acres of land.Maolana Abdul Hakim,the guardian saint of chunati and deputy magistrate Nasiruddin were the son of Quari Abdur Rahman.These two illustrious sons of Quami Abdur Rahman together with four noted sons of Abdur Rashid Sikder lay the foundation of the bulk of chunatis population.The existing renowned families of chunati are the descendants of the above mentioned outstanding sages.
                                                                                                 

So we can classify our predecessors into different groups with strict regards to the stipulated period of time.

In the first place we can cite the sages in a chronological order.Here we find Moulana Abdullah Hussaini(Bura Moulabi),Moulana Shah Sharif(Boro Mianjee),Maolana Abu Sharif(Chutu Mianjee).Sufi Nusratullah Mianjee,Quari Abdur Rahman,Maolana Abdul Hakim ,Naseeruddin deputy,Shukur Ali Munsef,khalifas of Hazrat Hamed Hasan Azamgari (R) namely Maolana Fazlul Hoque and his brothers Moulana Shah Nazir Ahmed, Hakim Moulana Munir Ahmed, Jainuddin Shah,Nurkala shah and Moulana Hafez Ahmed (Shah Saheb ) who apart from being prominent spiritual personality initiated the gorgeous and colorful 19 days long-drawn Seerat Mahfil .[The autobiography of the Prophet (SM)) which upholds Islamic values and ideologies in course of discussing the life sketch of prophet Mohammad (Sm)..] Last but not the least only living member of this group Maolana Habib Ahmed who has retained the rein.  

Secondly we can highlight the outstanding educated dignitaries in whose character we find the exquisite blend of modern and spiritual aspects.Here we find the name of Moulana Waziullah khan Sami,khan Bahadur Md.Hasan,Fazlul Kabir Khan,Habibur Rahman,Deputy Magistrate Faizullah Khan,Kabir uddin khan etc.
   
Thirdly we can categorize the patrons of educational institutes, social leader,reformer and public representatives.Here we find Estafazur Rahman khan,Hakim Maolana Tafazzalur Rahman,Mehbubur Rahman,Moulana Abdul Gani,Maolana Shamsul Huda khan,Maolana Nurul Hussain.Among the social side Master Md.Mohsen,Kazi Foroque Ahmed,Estafa Ali Khan,Ishaque Meah,Ilias Meah,Yunus Meah,Mustasim Billah,Moulana Md.Bashir,Moinul Islam Chy,Yasin Master,Abdul Salam Fakir, Dr.Nurul Alam,Deraj Meah etc
                                                                          
Chunati is a village of rich cultural heritage endowed with unprecedented salient features. The people's profound aptitude for education has paved the way for creating half kilometers enlightened educational zone which includes five formal educational institutions and one informal training centre. Age long pursuit knowledge of Chunatia's ancestors has enriched its culture and tradition added a new dimension to its educational system. That's why it has occupied an unique position in the map of the country and convert itself into a milstone in the annals of history.
